One of the biggest reasons there are more people struggling to make money online than there are actually making money online is a huge lack of focus. Newcomers to Internet marketing are bombarded with seductive money-making options from the time they sign on, many which include words like fast, quick, and easy.
They're misled by claims of instant wealth, backed up by Photoshop-altered proofs of income and deceptive shots of exotic cars and huge mansions. It's little wonder that six months into their Internet marketing adventure, they've run out of money, patience, family support and all too often, hope and desire.
If I could offer one piece of advice to new and hopeful Internet marketers, it would be to stay focused. It's a lack of focus that keeps you opening e-mail after e-mail, knowing that each one is promoting the latest greatest flavor of the month.
That same lack of focus is what keeps you posting in forums, watching endless videos, and pulling out your credit card time after time to purchase the next e-book you can't live without. It's entirely too easy to spend hours and hours online, supposedly "doing business", when in reality you haven't done a single thing to move your business forward.
I know because I've been there. And please believe me when I tell you that until you get focused, the chances of making any significant income are somewhere between slim and none.
The second biggest reason that so many folks struggle with making money online is simply the lack of taking action. They want to be sure everything is perfect before they publish a website. They want to know without a shadow of a doubt that their success is guaranteed, and will labor over the smallest of details rather than adopting the "Ready-Fire-Aim" mindset of the super achievers.
The third reason most people won't become financially independent by working online is because they just give up. They bounce from one project to another, never really giving any of them enough time to work and after several weeks or months with no results and often no support at home, they're simply too discouraged to continue.
But possibly the biggest reason more people aren't getting rich from their online efforts is because they treat it more like a hobby than a business. With a hobby, you participate when you want to, and only when you feel like it. In a real business, you participate whether you feel like it or not.
A real business has goals, and a plan with which to achieve those goals. If you don't have goals, how will you know if you reach them?
A business also takes time to develop and grow, and in order for it to grow, you'll need to invest in it from time to time. That doesn't mean buying every shiny new thing that crosses your inbox. It means with every purchase you make, you need to give considerable thought to whether or not this will further your business right now. If it won't, then you don't need it, and I don't care how convincing the sales page is.
The good news in all this is that you *can* make money online. You just need to become more focused, be willing to take action consistently, and never ever give up. Those are the traits of financially independent.
