Reclaim the Landline - It’S Not Retro, It’S Smart

One of my most common childhood memories of my mother was her standing in the porch on the telephone. She would extend the cord as much as possible, so she could hover by the front door watching out as I played with friends. It was such a common occurrence that we even have photographs in our family albums of that very scene - my mother with the phone, standing in the porch! Strangely, my mother spending hours chatting on the landline phone is not such a common occurrence anymore [and, I couldn’t even tell you when that change happened]. For some reason, many people have fallen out of love with the landline. But, maybe it is time to re-evaluate and rediscover what we are missing!
Mobile phones have exploded all over our lives - everyone seems to have a mobile and some have more than one! Our mobile phones seem to offer the world - from internet access to the ability to record videos - but they are not necessarily the best thing when it comes to calling. It seems that the more advanced the developments become, the less practical our mobile phones are for the basics. Those long, laughter-filled conversations my mother used to have are not feasible on her current smart phone - it would too costly, and the conversation would be punctuated by hang-pus as the phone is so easily disconnected! It is time to turn back the clock and remember all the perks that come from the trusty landline phone…
Landline phones are able to offer so many benefits now. They are no longer trapped by the confines of a wire - they can be used all over the house, allowing you to walk to find a quiet spot or to watch your children play out in the garden. One of the consequences of mobile phones is that many of us no longer remember people’s phone numbers, because we can all them at the touch one button. With a digital landline phone, you can store a multitude of contacts just as you can on a mobile, meaning you don’t need to go back to having a long list of numbers on the table by the phone. And, finally, you can enjoy the cost benefits of using the landline [especially if you are calling another landline number]. Whilst many mobile contracts include minutes, the penalty for going over these can be expensive when the bill arrives and with pay-as-you-go options, you have to be sure to load your phone with ample amounts or risk being cut off mid-call. With a landline, you can relax, enjoy the conversation and feel reassured that you are making the smart financial choice!
